Putter Days

It's raining here today. The perfect day for slow things like reading and maybe a nap later. There's a hush all around me with only the sound of the falling rain. The odd car rumbles past the house on the old dirt road but that just adds to the ambiance of the rain. I love rainy days. A chance to sit back and do absolutely nothing with no guilt.

I know not everyone is as lucky as I am right at this minute. There are some that still have to get up and go to work or school but me, I'm retired. I can take advantage of these slow times and just sit back and do nothing. I get to choose which days I want to go out and brave the world. Being retired can be a good thing on days like this. I plan on taking full advantage of the whole day by not making any plans. It will be a putter day.

What's a putter day you ask? A putter day is when you wander around your house and do whatever takes your fancy. It can be little odd jobs you never get a chance to get too. It can be working on a project you've been trying to finish. It can be cuddling up in a big comfy chair with a good book and a cup of tea. It can be anything you want it to be as long as it makes you happy. Rain days are perfect for putter days.

I find people seem to think that each and every day has to be filled down to the last minute. They don't see the joy in doing nothing at all. If they're not doing something it becomes wasted time. Well, I'm here to tell you wasted time is not necessarily wasted.

The odd day like today has so much to offer. It gives you time to regenerate in mind, body, and soul. It can be a healing time if you just accept it for what it is, a gift. A time to sit back and reflect, get your bearings and start over tomorrow. Don't worry that the bed hasn't been made or there may be dishes in the sink. Shag it, it'll still be there tomorrow. Use this day to be thankful for what you have, even if it isn't much. Use this day to make a new plan for tomorrow. Use this day in any way that makes you glad to be alive.

There are no wasted days. Every day has a purpose. Use it accordingly. Above all don't feel guilty about wasted days. They're here for a reason. Just say thank you.
